Healing Kitchen
As I sit here thinking about what to write for this first post, I find myself overwhelmed by the amount of grief topics I could cover. Originally, this blog was intended as a platform for me to share my journey through grief and as a place for the cherished family recipes passed down by those who are no longer here. Through my research on grief, I’ve realized there is so much more to explore and learn. I invite you to join me on this journey as I dive into the various aspects of grief, using my kitchen as a way to feel closer to my loved ones and help with healing.
I come from a family of home cooks, where love was expressed through food. While the recipes I’ll share here may not be gourmet, they hold a special place in my heart as symbols of home. Over time, I’ve had several family members and friends of the family reach out for various recipes, so I’ll likely start by sharing some of those. If you are among those people and have a special request, send it my way. Additionally, I stumbled upon a notebook filled with my maternal grandmother’s handwritten recipes, many of which I’ve never seen before.
A year ago, I experienced a devastating flood caused by a burst pipe, which resulted in the loss of the main part of my home. I plan to share this story in the future, as it is a significant chapter in my grief narrative. Although I now live in a beautifully restored space, it doesn’t quite feel like home yet. Like the generations of women before me, I take solace in cooking. I hope that by exploring my family’s recipes, this new space will gradually transform into a place that truly feels like home.
This is such a great project, Tricia! I’m proud of you for launching the blog, and I know your parents are as well, as they smile on you in only the ways they could. Looking forward to following your journey, and maybe even picking up a recipe or two that may spark some memories of childhood. ❤️
Love the idea and can’t wait to see more. Hope I can figure how to follow you not to miss a thing.
The last meal I had with your mom n dad was his baked pork chops with potatoes, carrots & onions. Don’t forget to post this one.
